While the title of North America’s Best Ski Resort is disputed every year, Whistler Blackcomb is never far from the number one spot. It has everything. Over 8,100 acres of skiable terrain, more than 200 trails (that’s on trail maps), an average seasonal snowfall of 11 metres, 37 lifts, 17 resturants, and 2 mountains! If those stats don’t paint a picture of truly awesome skiing and riding you’ll just have to come and see it for yourself.

Famous for its insane steeps and deep powder Whistler Blackcomb have nailed it when it comes to customer service, even for the novice skier. Everything is connected, from your accommodation, to rentals and ski school and so your entire vacation will run smoothly. Whistler Blackcomb’s only negative is an inevitable consequence of the constant heavy snowfall; cloud, fog and occasional rainy days, but trust us, with everything else the resort has to offer you won’t even notice.

All that and we haven’t even mentioned summer. Between June and late September the ski slopes of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are transformed into the world’s best downhill mountain bike park. For the less keen to risk their necks on the rocky biking trails there is also incredible alpine hiking and the record breaking Peak 2 Peak gondola which carries sightseers between the two mountains, 430 meters above the valley floor. Whistler Blackcomb makes the town of Whistler truly and year-round holiday resort.

Lost Lake, Whistler

YAH Says : Lost Lake Park is… view more

Lost Lake Park is extremely appropriately named so avoid attempting to walk to it from your hotel. In summer jump on the free Lost Lake Shuttle that runs from the bus station or in winter most hotels will provide transport to get to the cross country ski trails there. The lake itself is hidden away in the forest and as you arrive at its beach you will be greeted by one of Whistler’s most iconic vistas. In summer the beach is laden with sunbathers and the lake filled with those brave enough to venture in (although it is by far the warmest of Whistler’s lakes). Most of the swimmers will be cooling off after biking the hundreds of free mountain bike trails that line the surrounding hills. In winter the park is only open for snow shoeing and x-country skiing and is a peaceful break from the busy mountains. If you are visiting Whistler in the summer make sure you find your way to Lost Lake sooner rather than later, as you will probably spent most of your trip here.
