Paragliding San Francisco comes down to one important thing - finding an instructor / tandem partner you can trust. Notice the consistent theme of this Bird's Eye View of San Francisco article?

The best way to start your paragliding adventure is to start the day with a hike up the very mountain that you'll be launching from. Great White Shark Tours in San Francisco

Leave the San Francisco Wharf and Alcatraz Tours to less than adventurous tourists. Instead, test your limits by seeking out the one thing that keeps sun bathers on the beach at bay when in San Francisco - the Great White Shark. The coast line off of this popular California city is known for being severely sharky so why not take advantage of the region's most natural attraction and get one of the most adventurous tours in the U.S. under your belt? Immerse yourself in the same waters as the oceans most feared yet misunderstood creature.

Great White Adventures
Emeryville, California to Farallon Islands
Freephone: (888)-255-1528
Telephone: 510-808-4499

Great White Adventures is the most reputable San Francisco Great White Shark Tour around. Aside from the friendly, professional, and knowledgable crew on board, Great White Adventures finds it's success from one other very valuable resource - the Farallon Islands.

Located under 30 miles off shore from the Golden Gate of San Francisco, the Farallon Islands are an ominous looking collection of volcanic ash toned islands and sea stacks that poke through the tumultuous and cold Pacific waters of Northern to Central California. Although appearing barren, the Farallon Islands are rich in life from both the air and sea. While they serve as a protected sanctuary for sea birds, its what's under the liquid surface that makes the Farallon Islands enticing for some while haunting for others. The Great White Shark makes these islands its home because the eatin's good at the Farallon Islands, packed to the gills with seals, sea lions, and other fish served raw to their wide open jaws. In the fall, when thousands of local marine mammals congregate at the Farallon Islands for breeding season, is not uncommon to see the powerful yet beautiful beasts breach the water and clamp on its prey in a manner commonly seen during the Discovery Channel's Shark Week.

Great White Adventures kicks off its tour season during this natural circle of life phenomenon and while they can't 100% guarantee you'll see a Great White, much less a dramatic breach attack, the odds are in your favor with the best rated Great White Shark tour company in the business. Regardless if you spot the sea's most misunderstood inhabitant, the full day tour and its guides shed light on the importance of the Great White and it's place in the ecosystem. In addition, depending on the season, you can see Grey, Blue, Humpback, and even Killer Whales (the Great White's natural enemy) in addition to a massive collection of marine mammals. Whether you opt for the cage diving experience or prefer to stay up on board, the Great White Adventures tour will be a once in a lifetime experience.

San Francisco Bay Whale Watching
Mailing Address: 300 Napa St, Slip #26, Sausalito, CA

It's not your fault if your trip to San Francisco doesn't coordinate with the breeding season of the marine mammals at Farallon Islands. Therefore we thought we'd recommend another service than runs during the remainder of the season when Great White Adventures crew is off frolicking in the warmer waters of Mexico.

While this tour doesn't offer cage diving nor make claim to being a Great White Shark specific tour, they still present you with the option to see the Farallon Islands up close and if you inspect surface of the sea closely, you may get lucky and spot one on your own. SF Bay Whale Watching is a leisurely way to enjoy the off shore attraction of the islands and places more focus on whale watching - an incredible experience in itself.

Alcatraz Night Tour

Alcatraz Tours in San Francisco – really creative right? Well, although we prefer to steer visitors away from the norm, we can’t exactly ignore the Bay Area’s most infamous attraction. But a trip to the Rock during the day can feel more like a Universal Studios theme park excursion – complete with kids and Werther’s Hard Candy carrying grandparents in the mix. They daylight hours are also so busy it’ll likely drive more adventurous travelers into the insane asylum wing of the old prison.

Save the afternoon trips for those that hang their heads out of big red San Francisco trollies going “ooh” at every turn and instead opt to join braver souls on the edgier night time tours of Alcatraz.

Note: Never wander off from the night time tour groups to explore the Alcatraz grounds alone – it’s rumored that those that have were never heard of again. Seriously. Maybe.

Alcatraz Cruises - Alcatraz Night Tour
Pier 33 Hornblower Alcatraz Landing, San Francisco, CA

Enjoy the sunset and the late evening stories told by the tour guides of Alcatraz Cruises before the reddish hue disappear behind the bay when things start to get a little creepy. After a narrated cruise around the island and docking you get to "do time" in a cell and if they let you out for good behavior there are other special experiences that only the night time tours offer. Contact Alcatraz Cruises at the phone number below to find out what those may be. In our opinion the most eerie portion if the Alcatraz Night Tour occurs when you step foot on the stained floor of the prison hospital where one can only imagine what occurred within many decades ago. If it get's quiet enough the walls just may whisper the stories in your unsuspecting ear. Chills.

Ticket Prices:
Adult (18-61) $35.00
Junior (12-17) $34.00
Child (5-11) $20.50
Senior (62+) $32.25
Toddlers (0-4) Free

Duration: 2.5 Hours (approximate)

To purchase tickets, call (415) 981-ROCK or purchase tickets to the Alcatraz Night Tour online.

San Francisco Food Truck Pod

SoMa Streat Food Eatery San Francisco

San Francisco is considered to be the home to the best food trucks on the mainland of North America (Hawaii is the overall champ). Now as far as we are concerned, the allure of the food truck phenomenon is greatly due to the “stumble upon” factor. There is little better to wet your taste buds with anticipation than wandering the streets in the midst of a serious hunger pang - while tired of the same old fast food or passé overpriced eateries - when you accidently come across a food truck parked on the corner of an intersection. The more unique the truck and cuisine the better and you feel a sense of pride in the belief that you alone may have been the first of your circle to discover this new addition to the food truck landscape – either jumping on social media in an effort to spread the word or keeping tight lipped so as to not spoil your new secret spot with crowds and commercialized hype. We also feel an allegiance to the owner/operators of our favorite food trucks, following them diligently on Twitter and Facebook to find out where they are on any given lunch date, feeling that these efforts are rewarded with an extra scoop of whatever your plate delivers -  as a thank you for your loyalty.

However San Francisco has thrown a wrench into our romanticism of meals on wheels with its recent batching of portable eateries into a monster truck pod – located at 428 11th Street at Division and called SoMa Streat Food Park. While blasphemous to some with its covered seating, restroom facilities, wifi, and a projector screen, Food Trucks have been dealing with a heap of red tape coming from the deep pocketed brick and mortar eateries in downtown San Fran and thus have found solace at the SoMa Streat Food Park. While we too feel that it does take away the appeal of a good food truck hunting expedition – we sympathize with the necessity of such a thing in the city of San Francisco and at the end of the day, you can guess where we’ll be the next time our tummies rumble when passing through the Bay Area.

Here is a quick highlight of some of the food trucks you can find on the 10 truck per day rotation at the SoMa Streat Food Eatery in San Francisco.
