As far as we’re concerned, coffee and art go hand in hand and in the land of some of the best coffee AND art in the world, NaPali Gallery & Coffee House combines the best of both. Throw in the amazing scenery and you will find it nearly impossible to pry yourself from this beach front establishment.
One step inside the cafe/gallery and your greeted by the scent of fresh roasted beans and treated to a visual delight as paintings, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, accessories, and bone carvings line every corner of the place.
The NaPali Gallery is a truly pleasant, relaxed, and refreshing destination for those in search of a one-stop combination of art, coffee, and natural beauty.
Even if you're staying in the popular visitor destination of Hanalei on Kauai you had best rent a car if you have any aspirations of buying a quality ukulele. Sure you can snag a great koa instrument from many spots on the island but you won't want to rob yourself of the experience of stepping foot into the shop that has the largest selection on Kauai, and quite possibly in the world - we kid you not. Scotty's Music is a well ronded music store but their biggest claim to fame and reason for inclusion on our Kauai travel guide is for their collection of koa toned four string masterpieces. Staff at Scotty's smile wide with aloha from ear to ear and will never make you feel out of place, even if you are an absolute novice. Head over to Kalheo along Kaumualii Highway for a visit and return with the sweet strumming sounds of the Hawaiian islands, cradled in your embrace.

You couldn’t get a better name for a bookstore found in the humble and historical town of Hanapepe, the magically sleepy artisan town on the south shore of Kauai. “Talking story” (telling tales of a time passed) is what this establishment does from the moment you walk in. Whether these tales are found in the massive collection of vintage books on the shelves inside or from the lips of the staff and locals gathering within, a step through the doors of Talk Story will leave you with some sort of anecdote worthy experience, if you let it in. Talk Story is also a hub of entertainment and activity on Hanepepe’s Friday Night Art Night, so plan your visit on Aloha Friday to really soak up the atmosphere of this bookstore that is so much more than a bookstore.

Wednesdays 4 pm - 6 pm
Hawaiian regional cuisine is blossoming, and every Wednesday the Kauai Culinary Market is hosted in the center from 4 to 6 p.m. in the traditional pau hana (after work) style. Live island music fills the air; fresh, locally-grown fruits, vegetables and coffee, along with spices, jams and cheeses fill farmers’ stands. South shore chefs take the stage at the Wine and Beer Garden to show their skill cooking local specialties, and if you’re lucky, there’ll be ribs! Join the crowds to taste, experience, gather recipes and learn about the island’s agricultural history – and its promising future – from some 20+ farmers and Kauai package food vendors.

Every Wednesday, late afternoon, the Kauai Gourmet Culinary Farmers Market sets up shop within the arms of The Shops at Kukui’ula, in the upscale development of Kukui’ula, near Kolos and Poi’pu on Kauai.
As with any farmers market in Hawaii, this affair is packed full of fresh produce and locally grown goods and attracts hoards of tourists and locals, baskets ready to pack full of fruits and vegetables born from the rich volcanic soil of the Garden Isle. Locally and sustainably made coffees, seasonings, honey and jams are also on deck making for great souvenirs to bring back for consumption once back in hotel rooms or on the Mainland. In addition to the natural bounty on display for sale, local chefs put on a show, slicing, dicing and grilling pork and mahi mahi for eagerly awaiting onlookers hoping to sample the mouth watering cuisine. A beer & wine garden further entertain the senses. Our favorite part about the Kauai Culinary Market? Capping off the affair with a slice, or two, of Liliko’i (Mango) Pie!
