Everyone knows the name but it's not the Don the Beachcomber you think it is. And yet it is. While Huntington Beach's Don the Beachcomber isn't the famed now closed tiki bar born in LA and spawned 16 chains that played a major part in starting the whole tiki bar theme in America, this less than half a decade old bar/eatery located on the outskirts of Surf City USA along Pacific Coast Highway purchased the rights to use the moniker as an homage to the original. The rich Polynesian theme spills into the decor, drink, and dining menu and it does the original Don the Beachcomber justice. The portion of HB PCH that DTB resides on has a completely different feel that the rest of the high-end commercial real estate budding district further South a few blocks away and thus keeps the tiki bar appeal intact. We look forward to Don the Beachcomber 2.0 sticking around for a long time to come so one day it may be mentioned in the same breath as the original on a list just like this.

Baja Sharkeez

Baja Sharkeez is party central on HB's Main Street drag. The consistent line up out front tells the story and the good looking crowd paints a better picture of what you can expect inside. Physically, this place isn't really set up to handle the sardine can like crowding but the plenty of fish in this sea don't mind rubbing shoulders, and more, in this close quartered mosh pit of HB's sexy citizens.

Fred's Mexican Cafe

Fred's Mexican Cafe/Cantina in Huntington Beach as a nightlife option is the perfect place to go for a late dinner, around 7pm (out of state travelers - bring your passport as it's required for entry) to dine and drink on the patio as the place begins to pack full of HB's party crowd. Around 9 pm you can separate from your seat completely satisfied and ready to mingle and more until the lights turn off.

Side note: The patio has an amazing view for watching the sunset pass down from the HB Pier and into the Pacific ocean. And during the US Open of Surfing you'll be hard pressed to find a better spot to catch the action and people watch from a bird's eye view. Bring your camera.

Hurricanes Bar & Grill

Hurricane's is awesome. The pub style menu is amazing and the happy hour specials rule. The 2nd floor patio is a great place to cool off on a warm night and people watch from a bird's eye view (just don't think about throwing anything over the edge or security will make sure you follow close behind).

The sound system has a definite kick to it so if you are averse to really loud tunes make sure you take a seat towards the back. Otherwise pull up a stool or loiter near the dance floor ready to jump in when the mood strikes, and it will. Its one of those places that when the party gets started all bets are off. "Baxters" hook up with Hotties and "Betties" hook up with...with, well Hotties too.

Aloha Grill

There's no question that Huntington Beach borrows a large part of its vibe from the aloha state of Hawaii. It's what keeps HB unique from the rest of the OC. So it only makes sense that a North Pacific island escape can be found nestled onto Huntington Beach's main drag of Main Street. If you're looking for a little island flavor, both in PuPus and cocktails, when out late on the town in Surf City then Aloha Grill is a must visit destination.
