Many tourists are suprised to learn there is an exotic oasis a mere 30 min boat ride of the shores of the SoCal coastline. "An island? Where??" they say as an unofficial tour guide (read "local") points out at the horizon attempting to guide their line of vision towards an obscure silhouette hidden in the thick smog courtesy of Los Angeles County.
You can rarely see it from the HB Pier and yet its there beckoning you for a visit and its well worth the short journey. In Avalon, the city within Catalina, you truly feel as you been transported over a thousand miles away to some Mediterranean outpost with boutique shops, B & B's and cafes frequented by travelers and citizens alike that have no regard for the hands on the clock tower.
For those seeking adventure, there are campgrounds in the hills that put you to sleep at night with the sounds of nearby wildlife that range from Bears to Bison. The surrounding coastline of this tiny island offers up unique snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities where one can witness dolphins frolicking about, while at the same time the thrill of spying sharks from a safe distance keeps the more timid thrill seekers at bay and thus there is little crowding in these waters.
Catalina Island is a must visit for those seeking an escape from the energetic, but sometimes crowded Southern California Coastline.
Zacks is a fun family run beach rental shop right beside the world famous Huntinton Beach Pier, thus making Zacks world famous too. It's the go-to spot for all beach activities so don't worry about lugging all of your stuff from motel or hotel because Zacks has it all!

Huntington City Beach
This is the place that everyone comes to Huntington Beach for. Huntington City Beach is 3.5 miles of awesome coastline and is seen in its entirety as you drive up or down Pacific Coast Highway. It is home to the annual US Open of Surfing, a major AVP sanctioned Beach Volleyball event and a variety of other professional beach and action sports games.
Huntington City Beach has something for everyone from sand castle building contests to paint ball wars. The sunsets here provide an excellent backdrop for the simple things in life like strolls along the beach or for more endearing moments such as bended knee wedding proposals.

Huntington Beach Pier
The HB Pier morning walk is a "goes without saying" tradition in HB whether you are a visitor or local. There is no better way to start your day in Huntington Beach than waking up at sunrise (if you are able) and grabbing a coffee of choice from Java Point at Huntington Surf & Sport on Main St, and slowly heading over to the Pier to watch the "dawn patrol" surfers already in the water. YAH recommends "repeat daily".
