Vancouver German Christmas Market
The Vancouver German Christmas Market is in its fifth year in the city, bringing a much needed boost to the spirit of those that wish for more traditional flare during the holiday season. The village follows the theme of its European predecessors in bringing the classic German Christmas Market to downtown Vancouver, providing a warm glow to the corners of Georgia, Cambie, and Hamilton.
Inside you'll find a wunderbar selection of arts, crafts, ornaments and other retail offerings perfect for stuffing stockings, gift bags and ornate wrapped boxes under the tree. But not only stockings will be stuffed by spending a few hours at the market as for every shop there is an eatery offering traditional German foods, including the likes of Stollen, Strudel, Sausage, Schnitzel, Winzerschmaus, and Waffles (and more!). And baby, if it's cold outside, simply snuggle up in a thick scarf and get warm and cozy with a cup of Feuerzangenbowle - a traditional German beverage that finds a sugar cube flambéed with rum, and dripped into mulled wine. Of course they will also have German beer - Paulaner from Munich - on tap for those looking to get even more "spirited".
There is plenty to look forward to for the whole family with the inclusion of a Kid's Market, packed with activities such as a carousel ride, gingerbread/lollipop decorating, and of course photos with Santa. There is also a Music Stage playing lively performances through the day and throughout the village you will find entertainers and even classic circus type acts walking the premises.
The Vancouver Christmas Market is the perfect escape to a time and place where holiday tradition means something. Make this one of those events you and your loved ones will return to every year, and more than once during its month long run. Fröhliche Weihnachten! (look it up).
Plenty of good, and well wrapped, spirits at the Vancouver German Christmas Market
