YAH Says : The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver… view more
The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has the history to back up it's already prestigious brand name, being one of the longest standing upscale hotels in the city. Recognized by it's ornate green rooftop that only serves to complement the matching mountaintops on the horizon, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is a destination point accommodation. Guests don't visit Vancouver and simply stay at the hotel as side effect. The Fairmont is as much a part of the trip as any attraction enjoyed by it's patrons. Sure you will venture out to enjoy the sights that are found within seconds of the hotel lobby, but you anticipate your return as if it was the main event.
At the heart of the spacious common area is the 900 West Lounge, where guests and locals both gather for casual business meetings, coffee, lunch, drinks, and all around good natured fraternization. If the Canucks are playing on one of the big screens you may even hear an eruption of cheers or an "aww, c'mon!" here and there. This place went bananas during the 2010 Winter Olympic Gold Medal game, as the Hotel Vancouver welcomed all to come on in and celebrate the impending game winning goal. Such is the service at the Hotel Vancouver, cordial yet unobtrusive. If you need someone, they're there in a heartbeat, but if you feel like taking a casual stroll through it's walls you can do so with only fleeting glances and genuine smiles from the staff to contend with. The main restaurant, Griffins, has a ritzy diner feel to it, delightfully surprising in contrast to the more classical decor within the remaining hotel. Of course the fine dining menu and bountiful buffet better match the grand atmosphere at the hotel and Griffins really spreads its wings with incomparable coursed meals during special occasions and key seasons such as Christmas.
The hotel is also very family friendly, as quietly evidenced by the climb aboard choo choo train found at the side of the check-in desk, and fun indoor swimming pool that will entertain the young ones. The only thing that will bother the children is trying to keep their own paws off the on site seeing eye dogs at the Burrard Street entrance special services desk. Shoppers in your party will adore the upscale retail stores within the Fairmont, that includes the likes of Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
Fairmont's Hotel Vancouver is everything a large luxury hotel should be and proverbially more. It exceeds expectations and commands your return on every visit to Vancouver, but in a playful way.
The Four Seasons is a top tier hotel in Vancouver perfect for any time of the year. It's all about location and convenience here. How often do you find an upscale accommodation directly connected to one of the biggest shopping destinations in a city? The Four Seasons opens it's doors right into Vancouver's Pacific Centre Mall. You won't need a jacket or umbrella to spend an entire day shopping and dining when staying at this hotel. In fact, you could keep your pajamas on and cross the hall to H&M to buy an outfit or hit the Apple Store to check your email, if you were so inclined (you may get a few weird looks).
Aside from the other stone's throw attractions (Vancouver Art Galley, Robson Street, Granville Street, etc...), the Four Seasons is a place you'll want to spend plenty of time in. With plenty of amenities and services on site you'll be hard pressed to find better convenience. Dining is upscale contemporary at Yew Restaurant & Bar, but if you simply want some fast food, a quick jaunt to the mall food court will satisfy the craving. The decor is classical with a touch of Asian influence and the service is as expected. The Holiday season is especially attractive as the Four Seasons presents it's annual Christmas tree display with over a dozen uniquely decorated pines that start in the downstairs entrance, up to the second floor lobby, and spill out in the mall.
The Four Seasons is one of the best year round accommodation "attractions" in Vancouver.

YAH Says : Le Soleil is a… view more
Le Soleil is a beautiful boutique hotel located a little off the grid in downtown Vancouver. It's narrow in stature and nestled into the downward sloping portion of Hornby Street as it descends towards the Convention Centre waterfront, making for a very convenient location for those that wish to venture all over the downtown core, while keeping within a few minutes walking distance from it all.
Inside is quite impressive. The tall ceiling reaches up from it's golden and wine colored accents into a warm lit setting. The common area is calm and relaxing, with plush luxury seating that faces a fireplace. It never appears too busy within the walls of Le Soleil and that's what makes the setting so endearing. The staff is cordial and quite helpful when questions are asked or requests need attending to. The short elevator ride of this 11 floor hotel leads into intricately decorated halls towards comfortable suites that are generally compact but laid out and presented quite well.
Given the very reasonable rates for a reservation at this hotel, it's safe to say that finding this kind of convenient luxury within a mid-range budget in Vancouver is next to impossible, putting Le Soleil at the top of a very exclusive club.

YAH Says : Sutton Place is your… view more
Sutton Place is your standard upscale accommodation located perfectly in the heart of the city. It's a safe bet for those that don't have time to spend browsing virtual galleries online beforehand. Every metropolis has one. You can spend a fortune if you like (Justin Bieber stays here when in town), or you can find one of their residential styled suites for a relative steal if you do your due diligence beforehand. It's an expansive hotel with all of the usual amenities (pool, gym, spa) and a great restaurant within. The lobby is expectedly beautiful and the service about the same. The view of the city from above is where you want it to be, overlooking a large portion of shopping Mecca - Robson Street - and everything you could want is within a five minute walk. Sutton Place isn't exactly full of surprises, but for many, that's exactly what they are looking for.

Weddings & Meetings
The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa offers the perfect venue for events such as, meetings, and weddings.
The Wedgewood Hotel is one of the classiest accommodations around. It's 5 Star and 5 Diamond ratings can tell THAT tale better than we can. While we won't dive into details about the thread count in the linens we can better serve our readers with insights more applicable to the general public versus the nit picking of a white glove clad, monocle wearing inspector (they all wear monocles, right?) from the Relais & Chateaux committee.
The first impression was everything upon arrival at the Wedgewood. We make a point of dressing down somewhat when visiting a property for review. It's expected that if you arrive in a custom tailored Armani that you'll get the all star treatment on entry, but showing up in jeans and a simple button-up is a better telling of the genuineness of the greeting. The concierge service out front was so friendly and accommodating that we began to wonder if they were tipped off beforehand. The Check-in was just as pleasant, professional and yet delightfully casual, perhaps taking a queue from our demeanor. That's the key to personable service, to treat each guest on an individual basis versus the "cookie cutter" format that can feel downright robotic.
Once checked in we took our time to enjoy the ornate European decor of the Wedgewood. Unlike the other luxury hotels in downtown Vancouver, this offering is smaller, more imitate in both layout and ambiance. The rich golden accents of the lobby, hallways and furnishings provide a warmth that the coldest of winter days cannot sway. The suites are more contemporary than the passage, while maintaining it's sophistication. Our view of Homer and Robson Streets gave us a glimpse into the lively city awaiting our stroll, the only obstruction being a makeshift construction site. We have yet to find a view in Vancouver without. Such is the aesthetic plight of a rapidly growing metropolis.
Evening drinks were enjoyed at the Wedgewood's Bacchus Lounge where once again the service unveiled it's consistent theme of indiscriminating hospitality. The piano played softly in the background while seasonal martinis graced the table tops and dim lights dared us to try and leave the comforts of the room. The morning found us again in the same place, enjoying breakfast and espresso amidst a bustling crowd of business people and baby boomer vacationers. One night was not enough at this luxurious yet most welcoming accommodation. It seems they'll have us, jeans and button ups and all, and thus we will return.
